Gone
The truth of my ignominy
Stares at me with sad eyes
From across the breakfast table
I know that I could never do enough good
To erase the look of shame
In those eyes
And as she rises and walks out of the room
I know in the depths of my heart
That she won't ever be home again
So I stand and clear the coffee cups
And stand at the sink
Staring at the emptiness that stretches out
To forever
Stares at me with sad eyes
From across the breakfast table
I know that I could never do enough good
To erase the look of shame
In those eyes
And as she rises and walks out of the room
I know in the depths of my heart
That she won't ever be home again
So I stand and clear the coffee cups
And stand at the sink
Staring at the emptiness that stretches out
To forever
