The Warning
"Aya Asgaha." She whispered backing into the coop.
"Tlano askai" One of them answered her.
"I do not understand. I know little Cherokee." She whispered.
The one closet to her extended his hand towards her. She stared at him but shook his hand.
"You said "I afraid." I answer you with "No fear."
"You know English?"
"Yes. We are Whiteman friends."
Samantha looked down and smiled seeing she did not break any of the eggs she had in the basket. Then looked back up at the Indians.
"May I help you?" She asked.
"My name Silver Thorn. These are my brothers Grey Beak, Pine Foot, and Badger Claw. What your name?"
"It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Samantha Orhare."
"We did not mean to startle you. We have come to warn you that the Black Hawk Cherokee tribe is planning an attack on the village." Badger Claw answered sternly.
"When do they plan to attack?"
"Any day. We have been over looking the village. We want to warn your people."
Samantha legs quivered beneath her as she grabbed the coop for support. Silver Thorn reached out and grabbed her waist for support. Samantha gasped and looked into his black eyes. They stood there staring at each other for a few seconds before he removed his hands.
"Are you hurt?" Silver Thorn asked.
"No, I just had a dizzy spell. I will warn my village. Thank you for your warning." She whispered.
"We shall keep watch over the village. We will try and help when attack happens."
"Our sheriff he kills any Indian in sight."
"Do not fear. We know this." Grey Beak nodded.
"Be careful. Goodbye." Samantha smiled shyly.
"We are always cautious. Donadagohvi Samantha." Silver Thorn stated before they left the barn.
Standing there staring out the back door thinking of the news they had just told her Samantha shivered. She would warn her father tonight before bed. Though will he believe me? She thought. I can not tell him that I spoke to Indians. He will punish me. She walked out to Betsy and started milking the cow. She looked over to the west at the setting sun. Three years they have been here. Why are these Indians attacking us now? She thought.
