I wonder
if galactic races
ponder the meaning
of multicolored lights
and "Peace on Earth
Goodwill to men"
annually
vs daily
How the majority
of the planet
lays down its arms
to string strands
from tree & rooftop
to outlet power,
but not for understanding
or Love
Why consumers
spend and pretend
regret won't swallow
the budget whole
in the year to come
All because we fear
the unknown:
broken patterns
the path less taken
advanced aliens
or the nature
of our true selves
So, thank you
for accepting who I am
vs who you want me to be,
for supporting my choices
even if different
from what you wish to see,
for contributing
to my well-being
even if it means releasing
an ideal or dream
into the ether of reality—
in this lifetime, anyway
It's the Spirit of Christmas
everyday vs annually
and I'm pretty certain
galactic races
ponder the pleasure
of supportive selflessness
amid a species
known to annihilate
their own existence
repeatedly

Fascinating. I usually think of the holidays as a time of more long-sighted reflection, but this poem clearly suggests there is a certain short sightedness in the sort of perfunctory traditions. Love it. Long time no see, btw!

What a planet this would be if everyone did spend 365 days a year letting others be themselves and live their dreams. And gifting each other with poems!
All I know is that If an asteroid stood between you and your goals on the path to fulfillment, I would Bruce Willis is right out of the sky.
Now it truly feels like Christmas! Mine is complete. ❤🎁🌲
And If any galactic races are intercepting our digital signals bouncing between satellites, they are sure as heck adding this to their Reading List. 👽

I loved that movie! the GrandPrecious did too! This has been a year of introducing him to all the good old movies and television series. It keeps him off his xbox and phone!
Honored that you felt this offering completed your Christmas! And there ARE galactic races out there, and here.
Hoping the New Year brings you much love, peace, and happiness!

I love the voice I'm hearing come through in this poem. I think of Posterity and what all we're a part of. Three cheers for the galactic races!

Dear A,
Where is this galactic race of which you speak? They sound way more evolved and financially savvy! I love Christmas yet it’s become galactic-ally ridiculous because of the commercialism instead of the love-ism. This poem is outta this world wonderful. H🌷

Honoria, they are as close as a meditation away. There is a documentary on Netflix ( or maybe Prime ) called "Capturing the Light". It's a beautiful thing and I highly recommend it.
They are definitely more evolved, and less dangerous than traditional films and documentaries make them out to be. Humans are much more dangerous!
Thank you for the sweet comment. You are appreciated. May the New Year bring you everything your heart desires. xo

"everyday vs annually" really sums up how the human race should be in giving more of themselves.
Wonderful work.
Hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you a Happy New Year.

the human monkey is a curious conundrum, at least they pick one day , and but also I have it on experience that love is can be a constant companion amidst our suffering with love to you human to accompany you in your joys and sorrows

Thank you, fellow human! That's a beautiful wish to read on New Year's Day! I'll take it, and reflect it right back to ya, Semaj!

This poem reminded me a bit of a couple of stories by James Tiptree, Jr, "the most mysterious woman in science fiction," about alien races coming to Earth and showing what they have in common with humans. I like the gently existential atmosphere you create.

Thank you! I always love when the world existential is used. I actually suggested it as a theme along with transcendental, knowledge ( which isn't the same as wisdom ), and a few others. I don't think they made the cut. Or maybe they did. I need to check.
Hope you had a wonderful new year!

Your ideas are so revolutionary, you see beyond with great vision. The picture is hilarious, but your words present sobering truths after the eggnog and rum cake to getting back in shape physically and financially. The escapism always ends painfully in an attic or basement crammed with material stuff and an empty living room. Maybe one tree will be immortalized on the Moon after we become like the dinosaurs, its too sad to think about. We better dust off our sleighs :) Happy New Year!

The concept of this poem - looking at humans from an outside perspective - is very well-executed and brings our odd habits and foibles and dreams and despairs into sharp focus.
