He Lives In REM
She dreams about a guy
whose been buried
with dirt, fog and time
with every dream
he gets further away
so she drinks coffee
to stay awake,
hoping to keep him
in the heart part of
her brain, a lot longer
then he's supposed
to stay.

Enjoy the conciseness & intuitive sense of the poem.
Nice selection of elements that separate--dirt (tactile), fog (visual), time (abstract).
A little bit like Invasion of the Body Snatchers--people are abducted and spirited away during sleep, except it's the other person you lose when you sleep.
A lot of nice stuff here, in terms of the set-up, situation.

Also way fascinating nod to the heart part of the brain. I learned recently that Aborigines believe humans have 3 minds: the heart mind, the head mind and the stomach mind. They believe we should spend the least time in head mind which their word for it is synonymous with “tangled fishing net”, only to be used for problem solving

Loved the title, alluding to his dwelling place for her. Fantasy? Dream? Wherever that may be, it's a heart tugging piece, with a deep longing for more
