When Angels Fly
Sunbathing
up top on
towels of clouds
soaking up
close to sun
army of halos
electrified
in the land of
Kingdom Come
Feel them in the air it's swirling
Up above the clouds are moving
Hope they
pass me by
don't want to
learn to fly
need another drop
of eternity or time
dial back that
flaming sun dial
up in the sky
So much left to do
a great life left to live
praying they stay up high
when angels fly
Searching for a
miraculous miracle
something in the
air isn't right
do I have any fight left
or Is it just dread
inside my head
It recklessly treads

swoop down with

Author's Note
We had a trampoline in my parents back yard. Sometimes I would lay on it and just watch the clouds sail by. In my mind when clouds start moving I feel the angels are flying by heading somewhere. A whole flock of angels on a mission of miracles. Real miracles. Makes me wonder how many close ones we had and just never realized.
To me they are the Rock Stars of heaven who wear rosaries as their bling and have a few swords masquerading as feathers hidden in their wings:)

Love this ode to childhood memories and the nod to angelic beings. I’ve read they are terrifying to look at, but I can’t fathom it so I see them as beautiful.
I too have wondered how many times they’ve been watching over me, though I do know of a few specific ones.
Really enjoyed this one. The rhyme scheme was really terrific and it read smooth like butter.

Sometimes that trampoline was scary. When I had to share with my brother I always got too close to the edge. By the springs. Scared I would accidentally just jump right off in mid air. LOL
Much preferred just laying on it daydreaming.

I loved how this write went from calm and fun memories of childhood, the total admiration for the beauty of clouds and angels to oh my god don’t take me yet! I have more shoes to buy, dresses to wear, and lunch dates to attend!
I really dig the idea of angels as miracle ninja’s and blingy rosaries! Fantastic visual. I’ve further adorned some of them with the newer trend of cotton candy blue and funky fuchsia hair too! Very thoughtful combination of ideas and beautiful execution! Great piece. H🌷

Yes I do think of angels quite a lot. When I was younger my mom put a guardian angel print above my bed. She was guarding two kids across a bridge.
I want my angels to have a sense of style. Why not?
Just rock and roll with it. LOL

The rhythms in stanzas 3-5 are real nice--
The use of cretic feet, as their own lines, with rhymes, as in lines 2 & 4 of the 3rd stanza:
Hope they
pass me by
don't want to

Or embedded in lines of iambs, like the opening of the 4th stanza:
So much LEFT to DO
a great life LEFT to LIVE
praying they STAY up HIGH
when angels fly
A nice, understated move in the above lines, the way the 2nd lines arched, first foot (a GREAT LIFE, -``) echoes the iamb+cretic of the 1st line (so MUCH LEFT, -``)
Nice workmanship with the rhythms--enjoyed!

I wanted to use any word other than die.
I wanted to keep it hopeful. I felt that word would darken the rhythm of my message. Hope that makes sense. LOL

I am prone to and usually drawn to the darker side of things, so for me, angels have usually found their way to becoming more beastlike in my mind... lol. Taking a little stroll upon your imagination was a true, lovely excursion..... thank you.
By the way Journey is one of my favorite bands, ever! I'm a huge fan and probably could listen to the song 'Stone In Love' everyday for the rest of my life and be happy as a clam;.instantly transported back to the summers of my childhood!... So yeah, I loved the Author's note as well.... 👍🏻 .... hahaha...
