Beautiful Girl
Staring at the mirror searching for imperfections
You won’t see clearly ‘cause your mind alters the view
You’ve come to dread the face in the reflection
And try to wash away what isn’t you
You’re covering up your sleeve trying to hide your heart
But tiny shards of it keep slipping through
They glimmer in the light then you fall apart
Knowing there’s nothing you can do
And she cries at night
When no one is around
She lives a lie
She has lost herself
With no way to survive
And no way out
Beautiful girl
How unfair the world’s been to you
You’re breaking and they’ll act like they’re surprised
Their faces plastered with unspoken words
They’ll whisper there were never any signs
But you know that it’s all been rehearsed
And she cries at night
When no one is around
She lives a lie
She has lost herself
With no way to survive
And no way out.
Beautiful girl
How unfair the world’s been to you
Tears of glass break on the floor
And they don’t know
How could they know
How long it’s been since you’ve felt whole.
Your bleeding lungs can get no air
And they don’t know
How could they know
So all they do is stop and stare
Staring at the mirror searching for imperfections
Even though you know each one of them by heart
