Image for the poem Driftwood

Driftwood

drifting on the seas of fate
tossed by storms
but free of hate
I am carried by the tides
seeking a future that hides
in crashing waves
as riptides enslave
looking for a direction home
that's lost within this poem
but once there was a map
a treasured scrap
drawn with a loving hand
and a compass to command
that pointed toward your heart
but the compass broke with my soul
an agonizing toll
and the map had warned
"there be monsters here"
all my secret fears
so I slew my monsters
and destroyed what I inspired
where now is the map of my desires
and my unfulfilled quest
the holy grail manifest
a trinity of love and lust and mirth
and spiritual rebirth
that waits upon far shores
for the driftwood of my soul
weathered but whole
to be left by storm
and found transformed
by the ghost memory
and loves simple mystery
that will finally bring me home
