fair weather friends
I don't know what you want from me
we push and pull
invisible directions to nowhere
you say "call me
if you're having a bad day"
then fail me
every time I need to talk
We've been through so much
and I was your rock
when the abyss threatened
to change your life
in ways we can no longer imagine
You're the sarcastic smile
on my shoulder
and you love me best
when the days are sunny
and we laugh ourselves
into painful rawness
You know me
but you can't be there
when the days are dark
and you have nothing
but a smile
and a positive affirmation
you stole from the internet
like generic words
can fix the darkness inside
I wish you could love me better

friendship often blows around in the wind, but love pulls up its collar and simply goes on ..
You capture so well, what can be the harsh reality of friendships, as sometimes they possibly ebb and flow due to numerous life factors, interfering ...I know it shouldn't be an excuse... yet it unfortunately happens.... Just my own thoughts...
I do hope you're able to recover and find your way back to each other and reestablish your friendship, in all aspects that were seemingly present, in the past.... I know that long time friends are with fighting for and keeping, if there's even a small shred....
Really excellent writing, per usual... I was k and always am) captivated by your open and raw truth... your expressiveness is so very beautiful....

Everyone needs someone who will stand beside them when things are hard or bad. Fair weather friends will break your heart every time you need them. Super poem. I loved it.

The promise of someday getting as much from someone as you put into them...
Accepting them as they are is a hard perspective. As much as I love some people, I can only afford to be around them just so much, and some not at all.
This brings up hard work and difficult conversations and radical acceptance....
And then I remember that they've thrown me away on a whim, out of habit, as a routine, as a joke, or without hesitation....
And I have to value myself in order to have something to share....
You make me thoughtful....
