Regret
I look back on my life, and play the what if game
If I woulda, shoulda, coulda, I know it sounds lame
But we all do it, and we all sound the same
We look for easy answers, someone else to blame
But there is no one to point a finger at but me
It's time to move on, there's nothing left to see
Karma can be a bitch, it'll hit you hard
And happiness for me, was never in the cards
You reap what you sow, that's what they say
I found happiness once, but I pissed it all away
And I wish I could go back in time, and make things right
Wish I could take things back
Wish I'd never said them at all
But you can wish in one hand, then cry all night
Nothing I can do to repair that crack
No where I can go to, no one left to call
Nothing to do, but move on down the line
Learn from my mistakes, and I'll do fine
Try to forget all the stupid things that I did
Things that I didn't do, things that I hid
And it's time to forget all my sins
And get back into the game again

I wrote about leaving regret in it's place and moving on, just a few days ago... This piece hits upon some of my very deepest and seemingly kindred ideals.... Your absolutely correct, learn the lesson and put that regret in a place of peace and move on to perhaps become better, from the hard lessons learned...

From my observations, it's an easy thing to say, and obvious, and yet it seems to be a hard thing to pull off.
Personally I don't have many regrets, at least not major ones. My father always taught me to do what's right and you never have any. Sounds simple. It's not.
He also taught me to put myself in other peoples shoes to understand them. That's how I come up with these "stories". If I don't have something to write about I just wear someone else's shoes.

Well written. Regret is a horrible thing, so I try very hard not to go there. More a case of, learn from it and move on. I like your dad's take on it, but sometimes there is no right thing to do, no good outcome and no happy ending to be had for anyone.

My Dad told me, you play the cards your dealt, when you are dealt them. As long as you make the best choice with the knowledge you have, even if another would have been better, you have done all you can do. No need for regret. Chalk it up to fate.
