Make Believe
The ground beneath me quakes
Sending rumbles through my bones
As though the earth let loose
A throaty chuckle
The road ahead crumbles
Pieces of rubble falling away
Into endless nothing
Everything around me
Begins to move and shape shift
Creatures out of road signs
And giants with legs
Out of billowing factory smoke
Reality has become sort of a joke
The punchline to an existence
That is no longer funny
And all send of wonder is gone
Besides the daydreams in my head
Until they turn feral
And gnaw their way
Into my madness
If only my madness
Still brought me joy!
Sending rumbles through my bones
As though the earth let loose
A throaty chuckle
The road ahead crumbles
Pieces of rubble falling away
Into endless nothing
Everything around me
Begins to move and shape shift
Creatures out of road signs
And giants with legs
Out of billowing factory smoke
Reality has become sort of a joke
The punchline to an existence
That is no longer funny
And all send of wonder is gone
Besides the daydreams in my head
Until they turn feral
And gnaw their way
Into my madness
If only my madness
Still brought me joy!
