Image for the poem moon

moon

sonnet

i swear your eyes look down at naught but me
stunned by the charms of one who steals my breath,
while here, i tremble in the earth beneath,
to make, one day, her love my legacy.

tho you eavesdrop upon my wooing tongue,
you bear me witness that propriety
has not been wounded by glib liberty
—soon would i on her lips imprint my song,

were i to leverage every suave allure!
illuminate the middle of my plight,
if you would be the flame that sets me right,
when in lusthaste i fumble, too cocksure.

fell lunacy on my charisma falls,
should i rescind the moon’s sane protocols.
