I see you
and how you hide
behind bravado and bluster
thinking it's not obvious—
the glaring spotlight that reveals
I've known you
Lifetimes worth
They always think they know—
Best
Without fail or second thought
I feel you
beneath hollow words
It's the same tired
wool pulled, rigmarole
and sure enough...
There, in black and white.
It's clockwork, in it's precision.
I jaw drop marvel
that anyone
falls for the shtick
and the chest beating.
Still?
I reclaim my time
taking back that,
which was so pointlessly wasted,
while cherishing my very own.
Eyes wisely opened to ways of the world
I understand now
that getting old utterly terrifies
you and those of similar ilk
when hindsight squeezes
and presses down on all sides
Fear becomes king.
as 'obsolete' beats
like it's own tell-tale heart
thumping
that
never
ending
thump...
