New World

And when the stars you promised me
Started falling, kept on falling
I painted stripes on my skin
Razor blade deep, bleeding red
Against the white of my flesh
While the blue of my eyes blurred
By too many shed and unshed tears
Freedom, all you wanted was freedom
And you were ready to defend
Weapons loaded, shots fired
Tearing apart flesh and soul
Leaving holes and shreds and a pain
That made me love me more
And more each day
The value you didn’t give
I found myself
In the ruins of something
I thought was the promised land
And my American Dream
That had turned into haunting shadows
Casted by ego and pride
Washed away by the morning sun
Of a new day
