Arlington is not a place
Where pride or prejudice disgrace
The veil that lands on those who see
Those hallowed tombs of memory

Arlington is like a dream
A thought that no one dare forgot
A ream of tears too often seen
Is Arlington--that dreary spot

More than that is Arlington
And much more left to see
A star, a cross a sentry's there
To guard my memory

A silence there at Arlington!
A wind begins its course
A muffled sound beneath this ground
Is struck with all our force!

The day we seek is Arlington
A war, a chest to stand and beat
A bed to lie--too soon to die
To battle! Ay, too soon we meet

The blood we seek is Arlington
To drink what all the lusting wants
Where every word will soon arrive
And all the silence of Arlington haunts
