but none able
to curry the same favor
on travel
long and short
for obstacles of waiting
years and years together
yet, fondness
remains
still it grows
in it's warmth of familiar
the knowledge
of a known
beauty
incarnate
and of words
that makeup
the very depth of existence
and that are
stored at the core
of one's own being
because
reading.
especially
that
favorite book
no
matter

My first true love book was The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. I carried it everywhere and anywhere. Even now, I can barely read it without tears and I've read it hundreds of thousands of times. When I became older and started babysitting, I'd read it to those babies to get them to sleep or older kids as a help, so they could 'read along', and practice their learning to read skills. All the way to adulthood, I'd read it to my nieces and nephews when they were small, finally, I gifted them each their very own copies, via "Aunt Sue" with my inscribed 'love story' written on the inside of each copy for them. Reading has been a lifelong love affair and I am forever and incredibly grateful for catching the reading bug so young.

Yeah... I enjoyed Tom Sawyer, too. I didn't read that until I was a much older kid.. opting for choose your own adventure books and Encyclopedia Brown .... hahaha.... I remember crying my eyes out to Charlotte's Web... Ohhh my... did I ever... lol.

You can tell a person by the books they read. I have met many of my friends at my bookshop.
You certainly can tell a lot about people based on their book collection... It's a deep insight, indeed. That's very cool, you meeting good friends that way, A. It's an instant conversation /connection when you share book tastes... lol. That's like a dream job, working around books all day!!

I love when objects are made to be imbued with life. Well... They are always imbued with life but it certainly requires an observation and an expression to convey the contents of this life form, in order to awaken the perceptions of others, who may not see it. I very much enjoyed this write.

My Mom was an avid reader, and she made sure I had all the classics in my own library. Still, my favorites when I was young were the Encyclopedia Brown books. I ended up with the entire collection of Hardy Boys books, including the detective manual, lol, but I was always disappointed in them. I thought Encyclopedia Brown would have solved the mysteries a lot faster. Awesome write.

Some of my FAVORITE books were also the Encyclopedia Brown books 📚... I mentioned them in an earlier comment too!! Haha. I LOVED reading them and my choose your own adventure books. How delightful ... what a great poetry prompt ... have to borrow it ... you brought the story alive ... poetically ... sharing how you felt ... how you still feel ... there is a wonderful blend of past and present ... the reader/listener shares ... again the structure is perfect for this ... the crisp lines carry the flow and cadence ... choice plump words tickle the ear ... the last line is such a poetic sigh ... marvelous write my dear poetess ...

Oh! I gasped when I opened this and saw THAT dear old bunny looking at me! One of my absolute favourites too, and certainly one of my first loves. Such a wise, wise story. I love how you've shared & passed it down.

You have the quintessential writer's talent of taking the reader on a voyage in which the destination is a surprise. And I must say this homage to books and favorite ones is most delightful. This takes me back decades all the way to childhood when books were my world. Oh, the books I read back then. It takes a gifted writer like you to bring me back there and show me what it was like as the decades progress and my memory is not always clear.
