Trial at Judge Cecil’s Courtroom

There is a trial at Judge Cecil’s courtroom.
A big audience sits—jury included—awaiting doom.
The defendant’s soundful song of silence rings,
Echoing eerily of nothing and seemingly everything.
The trial begins with the sudden alarms of justice,
So that Themis may hear as prosecution goes first.
They accuse without reason in a reasonless time.
And pave way for defense to talk about a crime.
They defend without reason in a reasonless earth
And pave way for witnesses’s speech to birth.
Clamor strides across the dim crowded space
Where people sit like sardines with no leads to chase.
Examination has passed and the jury decides
The defendant is guilty; no other thoughts will ride.
A gasp fills the courtroom like a swift sudden wave.
The guilty is turned ‘round to prepare for its grave;
A mirror shines with the intrepid glow of felony
And sings a tune of sharp-witted melodies.

Author's Note
This is a poem from "Did Someone Say Metaphor?", my second poetry collection.

Perhaps things are not as they seem. Perhaps sometimes we must look in a mirror--within our selves and question our morality.

Other Notes: Cecil is a name that means "blind."
