A Wave of Stimuli: What a Stormy Sea!

Sometimes I close my eyes and imagine a world
where serenity smiles with glimmer and gold.

Oh, a world with gentle rolling waves
and a third arm to cover the complexities:
the secrets beneath each subtle salty wave.

Yes, a third arm could hold high
like a shield of a knight, blocking harsh
stimuli that beat at my eyes.
Pounding liquid punches.

If only I had a third arm attached.
I could finally prep the sail and mast.
Plentiful could be the ship of my efforts.
If only I had a third arm attached...

Curse these jagged stones, hard like hail,
hidden behind the ocean‘s veil.
Pounding liquid punches.
I wish to banish these unfriendly waves;
but I am the mere sailor stuck in a storm that prevails;

but despair traps me in, forcing my eyes
to forever watch the motion of the waves.
Pounding liquid punches.
A desire for a third arm, a lack of a wish—
a need.

Sometimes I open my eyes and see the world
where the ocean outside is flooding my own.

Author's Note
This is a poem about what it's like for me with sensory processing issues during school, or really anywhere. I wrote it today during the end of my last class as a means of letting go of my stress from such distressing stimuli, or at least an attempt of doing so. The third arm mentioned in the poem is a reference to a coping strategy of using one of my arms/hands to block part of my vision so that the stimuli may be avoided. The ocean mentioned is a metaphor for what it's like for me.
