POETRY ON MY MIND
THINKING
I got up this morning
With poetry on my mind,
So I sat right down
And wrote the first line.
I am not writing poetry
To see a book on a shelf;
I write for one reason
And that's to please myself.
I got up this morning
To face another day;
The words of my poetry
Started me on the right way.
I do not expect or need
The applause of men;
I have unlimited words
That are my best friends.
"What are you thinking?"
I am asked many times,
My answer to simple:
"I have poetry on my mind."
What is on your mind?
What is the burden of your heart?
Write that first line now
And a new adventure will start.
