You nailed it! My mom would plant black-eyed Susans in the flower bed around our house and some of my earliest memories are pulling those yellow petals juuuust so (perhaps cheating, but only a tinge) to ensure that he did 'love me'...
To this day, I can't look at black-eyed Susans without feeling that ache... lol
