The Underlying Importance Of Everyday Things

I learned a long time ago
That there is no greatness
In having things
And yet, some  things
Are entirely necessary
For ones survival
It's the underlying importance
Of everyday things

It's a truth of life
That seldom do people
Get everything they want
I have become content
In knowing life
Is better off that way
And that what's meant for me
Is sure to come my way

I now know
That writing and helping others
Are both necessary to
Fulfill the longings
Of my soul
And to make
This simple life
Of mine whole

I've learned that
The importance of a thing
Depends upon the
Value you place on it
And in the end
It's allowed me
to make sense
Of the chaos
I see all around me

Yes, it's wise
to understand
Both the importance
As well as the
Purpose of life's everyday things
And to appreciate the good
In what each new day brings
