Subtle Heartbreak

Has your mind ever broken your heart?
Have you ever looked at someone and thought:
 
"This just works, we just work"
 
Then as the fantasy begins to build
As you start to grow in attraction
As you really start to fall for them
Begin to realize that you're in an abyss  
The point of falling just doesn't exist
 
Have you ever watched
As your heart slowly begins to hurt
As your thoughts begin to turn towards you:
 
"How could I be a fool again?"
 
Have you ever found yourself waiting
Found yourself getting upset
Then as soon as they get to you
You start to rationalize the waiting
You start to make excuses  
Even though you now you're uncomfortable?  
 
Have you ever found yourself  
Begin to stew in the pain  
Of realizing that you have been there
But you have never been seen
You were only important in your own mind?  
 
This is the subtle heartbreak
When there is no one to officially break you heart
However it still feels broken
You're still hurting  
 
And yes no one owes you anything  
But you're still hurting
 
It was all in your head
But you're still hurting  
 
So you pick up the pieces
Without anyone realizing this  
You move on without anyone noticing
You go on with life
 
Then out of the blue
They claim to love you  
They claim they want you
 
But it all feels too late
Because how can you choose someone
Who never chose you?
