Tree Hug
I climbed my tree tonight
The hay field and pine needles smelled amazing
I swear I could feel the earth turning
Hurtling thru space
It was a little nauseating
It was out of control
Like everything these days
It made me cry
The tree cradled me
In its steady arms
It's getting dark earlier
I stayed way past sunset
Climbing down was a thrill
Going by memory
I didn't die though
The hay field and pine needles smelled amazing
I swear I could feel the earth turning
Hurtling thru space
It was a little nauseating
It was out of control
Like everything these days
It made me cry
The tree cradled me
In its steady arms
It's getting dark earlier
I stayed way past sunset
Climbing down was a thrill
Going by memory
I didn't die though

For some reason this reminded me of being at my sisters house a few weeks ago, using her singing bowl. I had the resonance going so well, I swear I could feel the air around me vibrating. A tree hug sounds really nice. Glad you made it down safe and sound!

I think maybe we have more senses than we tend to use most of the time... it's cool when we can tune in to them.

*me hug* The sequel lol. Seriously though. This reminded me of when I was a boy. I was afraid of falling up. I would clutch the grass, laying under the open sky or hide under the seats in a place like a theatre or museum with a very tall ceiling.
I love the vulnerable confessional feel of this with it's touch of details, nothing superfluous.
I hope you feel better soon. Dark days lead us to beautiful emergences. Life is always new. 💖🙏

Dear BT,
I sure am glad you didn’t die getting back down the tree.
I so appreciated this piece, for me, being cooped up and other avenues of creativity being closed, I enjoyed the images you’ve described in this poem. It was very peaceful and stress reducing and I thank you for that. H🌷

Oh, I'm so glad this gave you a moment of peace.... if I could transport you to my tree branch I would - it's such a place of freedom and comfort!
Thanks for the love. ❤

This reminded me of a tree in my backyard growing up. We were always climbing that tree, often a few of us up there at a time. I don’t remember what kind of tree it was but it was majestic and sturdy.

I look at trees so differently since I started climbing them again!
I used to climb a tree in my backyard as a kid too... it was SO tall, I'd go way up top and look down on the roof. No one ever came looking for me; it was back when kids could disappear for hours without causing panic. Heavenly.

This is really cool. "It's getting dark earlier" is a particularly powerful line for me. To me, it reflects back on childhood from a perspective of adulthood in a way that communicates a very relatable sadness.
