History is a Poor Record Keeper.
I miss things I know I shall never witness
But also thank the heavens that destruction will be missed
I switch on the television
If I were Le Prince I would be livid
Thinking of how my life ended
On those tracks as I went to patent
Damn Edison
So called 'father of cinema' is such a dick
But as I sit
I appreciate the efforts
Of the devoted scientist
I appreciate the research of those like Jared Diamond
How location and opportunity are what ensures dominance
Our genetics are not lesser if we be aboriginal or native
Opportunity disease and tools made the world mostly Eurasian
I sit and think of how unfair it is that some are seen as lesser
But appreciate the fight and passion spoken
It teaches a lesson
Religious persecution has probably halted many things
I turn into Jack Parsons every time I watch the moon landing
Thinking
Jet propulsion may have caused me to leave sooner than I craved
But hey
I lived my life just as I died
Even as my name waned
Opportunity and environment
Thats the point I intend to make
It doesn't matter who is smarter
Access to resources dominates the stakes
And don't even get me started on the history of women
So buried that their names won't be found in many dissertations
Though much discovery has never been done by one or a few men
The publications never mentioned those who contributed to the concept
The situations rectified, all 'assistants' are now to be mentioned
But every day more women's names come up in scientific invention
The treatment of leprosy stolen from Alice Ball
Marie curie
Rosalind Franklin
Henrietta Leavitt and Hubble's law
Maria Merian
Netting Steven's
Lise Meitner and the a-bomb
Esther Lederberg
Catherine Wright
Emily Roebling answering to Brooklyns call
I miss the names that never made it from pen to paper
But I sit here a little smarter so I guess i can't be bothered
Theres no point to this poem other than to let it show
Even if you are erased
What you have to offer can still be known.
But also thank the heavens that destruction will be missed
