Dear Poet

Dear poet,
I hope this message finds you well,
And if you already didn’t know it,
This spill feels like my eyes are about to swell.

For a couple of days I had a dry spell,
Waiting to hear from the muse,
And then suddenly when I heard the bell,
I figured I can put some good rhymes to use…

See I started running again,
It’s a bit difficult to get up really early out of bed,
But in those long runs it’s when I begin
To see a bright future as I clear my head.

I’m sorry if I haven’t responded or called,
My days are filled with work and other objectives,
Some days my flow and ink feels like it stalled,
Pondering and thinking with different perspectives.

I hope that in these difficult and trying times,
You are doing well, staying healthy and safe,
Our combined efforts will bring a decline,
To a sickness that seems to kill like a haze.

But we must show our love for humankind,
With verses and words to bring more hope,
For those who are struggling, isolated or confined,
Or in their mind they’re at the end of the rope.

Know I respect you and admire you for who you are,
A person of substance who enriches other’s lives,
I’m glad I am here and I thank my lucky stars,
I found others who are willing to thrive.

So who ever needs read this also has to know it,
This is a seed of promise and so I have to sow it,
As sure as the sun rises it will bring light to your days,
Have faith my friends, my colleagues, my dear poets.
