Broken, Beautiful, and Loved
Upon an unfortunate series of events,
You and I were broken and divided.
The worn pieces that melted together
In the heat of many a night,
Burned to ash in the furious cries of wounds unhealed.
Open, bleeding, in the midst of a warzone.
Allies turned enemies as memories became regrets,
And the hunger pains made us rabid.
You bruised me sore, I made you bleed.
Never a blow, but words and actions left tender scars.
As the smoke clears and we wave white flags,
I see your war torn face and see the man that held me
When the whirlwind around us threatened to swallow us alive.
Put down your weapons; leave your armor at the door.
You know my mind, my heart, my soul...
I'll never wholly let you go.
So even though I hold you at arms length
Afraid to break the safe zone...
I cannot erase the nights you were all I had
With a fleeting moment of reckless infatuation.
There's a beacon in my heart, and it softly whispers your name.

So even though I hold you at arms length
Afraid to break the safe zone...
