It’s Wrong to Call Me White

My heart breaks
because people would
look at my skin

and call me “privileged”
despite never living
above the poverty line

Worse they would
cut me into little bits

to deny my black
Mediterranean
heritage

I’m black Irish see
it’s pretty plain

looking at my
dear Daddy

who was darker
than a few
“dark” men
come summertime

My husband’s
breed is called
“Sand N*gger”

Despite also
looking cracker

our children’s
mix of breed

makes a stunning
combo indeed

Yet, we fear
that we’ll be
spit upon

and hated for
“white privilege”
