Self-portrait in dandelions
Here I am, this is me -
'Cause sometimes I just want to be seen,
But no, not really...
because, you know -- internet.
A vulnerable place,
one can never be sure...
Though it's really no different
from all the other vulnerable places
we go every day
where we're only partly visible -
Shadows of ouselves,
from the perfect angle
of our careful choosing.
You can't tell
if my face is grinning or sobbing
from what my shadow-self shows;
Doesn't matter - faces can lie anyway.
But here I am,
in the setting sun
my feet in the grass
wind caressing my hair
and dandelions round my head
like blazing stars
So if you've been paying
any attention at all
You know exactly
what my face is doing,
And that's how I know
you see my heart
'Cause sometimes I just want to be seen,
But no, not really...
because, you know -- internet.
A vulnerable place,
one can never be sure...
Though it's really no different
from all the other vulnerable places
we go every day
where we're only partly visible -
Shadows of ouselves,
from the perfect angle
of our careful choosing.
You can't tell
if my face is grinning or sobbing
from what my shadow-self shows;
Doesn't matter - faces can lie anyway.
But here I am,
in the setting sun
my feet in the grass
wind caressing my hair
and dandelions round my head
like blazing stars
So if you've been paying
any attention at all
You know exactly
what my face is doing,
And that's how I know
you see my heart
