Why Must You Torment Me
After all that's said and done
What is so unsatisfactory about breaking my heart
That you must reduce it to dust
When it finally begins to heal?
Why do you love the sight of ashes
So much that you blaze through me
Incinerating the spry young saplings
And wildflowers that spring up
To make my body a home for my soul...
It would be kinder to cast me far away
Than to tie me to a stake in your fire
Just to watch me burn alive.
What is so unsatisfactory about breaking my heart
That you must reduce it to dust
When it finally begins to heal?
Why do you love the sight of ashes
So much that you blaze through me
Incinerating the spry young saplings
And wildflowers that spring up
To make my body a home for my soul...
It would be kinder to cast me far away
Than to tie me to a stake in your fire
Just to watch me burn alive.
