Looked up Sarah Dessen. She does seem pretty terrible!

Ugh, don't get me started. The vast majority of her books revolve around teenage girls who go through some not very traumatic ordeal and then end up finding love 'where least expected'. Everything's terribly sappy and unoriginal. I mean, even the covers of the books are awful.

Reminds me of those terrible Boy's Own books my Nan left in my room as a child. Tedious stories about uber-macho idiots going on dull, stereotypically masculine adventures involving ships and the army etc.
