Round and round
around the fire
that fed on the dry wood
up and close
we held and stood
our bodies liquefied
to and fro
we darted across
two white rabbits on a black night
up and down
our bodies danced
as the earth turned right
night and day
I pined for you
post your silent departure
loud and clear
were my wails
which erupted from every pore
wry and dry
my smiles became
as I looked at the Polaroid of us
slow and beauteous
the virus spread within
as I awaited my turn, silent
one by one
it melted, wilted and waned
and there was darkness, profound
Alas, so fast
when I got here, you were nowhere
to be seen
Louder and farther
than the ocean inside conch shells
the questions still reverberate
Unhurried and unfettered
I see my love of a night, fateful
perish into deaf oblivion
And I can’t smile or shed pearls.
