Autumn Mornings on Shannon Ridge©️

the autumn morning
moves up slowly
over the ridges
and valleys steep

she takes her time-
to awaken and stretch
from her autumnal sleep

the days of light are numbered
November 4th
will sound her retreat
without missing a beat

banishing the extra hour
back into the commonness
of time and ease-
as she marches steadily along

And I’m given-
feelings of melancholy-
memories run down
that dust road in my mind

I know the age of wisdom
is now upon me
and I need to take heed-
but the beauty of Autumn
speaks to me-

death walks quietly
among the living vineyards -
leaves fade into a tattered carpet
made just for me

their colors blended
quite scrupulously
becoming shouting tones
of golden yellow, and orange

but it’s the reds
the intense reds
I’ll always remember
in scarlet and vermillion

leaves paint the scene
and I’ve let myself cry
at the beauty of death
only until now

-understanding-

the brilliance- of red-

This is a real place I live right by
