Autumn Mornings on Shannon Ridge©
the autumn morning
moves up slowly
over the ridges
and valleys steep
she takes her time-
to awaken and stretch
from her autumnal sleep
the days of light are numbered
November 4th
will sound her retreat
without missing a beat
banishing the extra hour
back into the commonness
of time and ease-
as she marches steadily along
And I’m given-
feelings of melancholy-
memories run down
that dust road in my mind
I know the age of wisdom
is now upon me
and I...

chasing shadows
Afternoon shadows chase the sun
lazy forms dance on turquoise walls
Ragged palms softly shake their heads
a tropical breeze born on glistening threads
Smells of supper simmering slow
filtering out a window screen door
August breathes her memories worn
as lacy webs weave thoughts of home

that strange thing ©
it is that strange thing
that crawls and streams
into common and uncommon
beings and things
circulating in atmospheric feelings
on projected life screens
in-between the betweens -
that live in the core of souls and minds
entwined in ritual scenes not always divine
cloistered in colloquialisms gentrified spleens
full of cosmic meanings dividing and intruding
superseding normal eccentricities spirit beings
singing and chanting ringing bells and dancing
kindly weird and rustically dignified being
things...

Sometimes -
she looks cold, and bitter
Wearing-
the leftover robe of Winter
Like spit on the ground
Her messed up land
Makes cows frown
In December
She never smiles
Mile after mile -
Sandstone cries to Moon
To ease her pain come afternoon
Sun hears her prayers, and proclaims-
Sandstone will burn in vain
Sage and Cactus create abstract Maze
Coyotes shadow dance - at end of day
Stone romanced through the haze
On canyon walls time scrawls pictures
Unframed-

Jackrabbits-
are clever lil’ brats
in the art of dodge and weave
hiding in between the vineyard lines-
frustrating Vultures Hawks and Sheep
one at a time-
cleverly flawless they-tease
II
dawn is deliberately
slowly drawn out
long and high-
on a fiery laser stringed gleam
that’s carefully fed-
into a streaming
bladed fractured seam
that explodes and beams
in rampant colors
of fantasies scenes
over Shannon Ridge
as it vibrantly teems
coming alive
with green elf ears ...

life thoughts
Let my thoughts be found certain
not wandering away among fields
full of desperation where hearts
bleed at protrusive illusions real
I will not wear garments of worry
and display my bare face as grave
reality will be safe if made that way
the tempest brews creating a storm
Let my thoughts be forged in steel
not crumbling like paper memories
that are but fragile life tokens given
when all around rages in a life-force
I will be vigilant this time not distracted
heaping loads of restitution to heaven ...

I Chase the Dawn
I chase the dawn
Only to you
As I disrobe from my thoughts
I've placed in my closet
Only for you
Like a forest on the Russian River
Cool and black blocking one's view-
hard to see through
Your filtered image falling soft upon me
As Pine needles do to Tara
Sleeping-
Woven like a carpet
I quietly walk the path to find
I'm bathing in you
Your scent p-
permeates me through and through

their balding eyes ©
every day-
they survey
the sky
the ground
and
the land all around
secret societal protectors
that feast upon
desiccated entrils
bones and marrow
of recently departed critters-
from vermin insects and vectors
they are the dark interceptors
and scraggly dispatchers
of natures creatures-
that have gone away to their maker
on Shannon Ridge
their band is found
natures undertakers-
soaring on thermals above the ground ...

wind through the citadel ©
A telltale sign is blown my way-
upon the wind of a memory string
that started to stray
walking on cottonwood leafed feet
carefully scattered among Acorn seeds
August starts to slowly grieve
For loss of her days-like whining children
passing away-in heated greed of need
they beg her to stay
Undulating green sails float, and sway
waving along, and away
in heated heavy hours of the day
the coven of Ravens have their say-
screeching-cackling as I walk their way -
Boldly they track me-carefully...

The breath of the Pacific rolls in slow across
the interior mountain coast
mountains disguised in Granny Witch eyes
that lace through old growth
Redwood groves and Fern canyons in moist cold-

hidden-stoically standing-roots entangling-
the clan and family
in thin steeps and deep ravines
of Fog and Fall outlining the trees
a flash of an Osprey is seen-diving into the
clear Smith river free-
running unimpeded from the Siskiyou's

again&again waiting on the edge of hope
where I live hoping for something I can stow
away into my feel good stash just for today inside
my hopeaholic head that refuses to listen to trash
Logic has temporarily lost its way in deaths haze
