The Velvet Curtain

- The Velvet Curtain -

Past the velvet curtain, there dwells the dark maiden.
Bright with the light of stars, within her noble eyes…
A goddess of old, once of some fair and high heaven!
Her wings blot the light of suns in the planetary skies.
Glory and power she cometh in, and cannot do other,
For she is the night and the light, without any equals!
To my side she hath descended, a sister to a brother…
And in my domain, the storm clouds she swift quells.
Inhuman desire is in her veins, shared with all her kin,
The dark gift that cannot be denied: the crimson taint.
Beyond the logic of mortal man, beyond human sin…
She is bound: by older laws both powerful and quaint.
Hotter than hellfire is the passion in kisses we shared,
For in Hell was such mad devotion formed, long ago.
No human mind can understand what mine has dared,
I: whose will is hot as fire, and as icy cold as is snow.
Within me is a wildness that no meditation can tame,
And no faith can hope to exorcise in its’ indwelling…
For I journeyed long in the place of the sacred flame,
Tarrying there by the will of a power so compelling!

What hollow world’s inner sun doth burn, almighty!
Within my breast it blazes, as it is before her throne.
How can words define her completely alien dignity?
It is more truly familiar than my very flesh and bone.
Doth that make me the alien now on a human Earth?
I do not repent of it; for our natures, we cannot defy.
We are what we were meant to be, even from birth…
To accept it is wisdom; to reject it, is to believe a lie.
Ageless Mother, behold thy great and terrible child!
I went before thee, and even now I cannot turn aside.
To know the love of wisdom is not a thing too mild,
For it changes a person, and from it none can hide…
Such is illumination so grand, that it shatters worlds.
Did I lust for the dark maiden as might some harlot?
Perhaps: even as I did adorn her image, with pearls!
Is it any wonder why I am on fire, a fire utterly hot?
How long was it since our forms entwined together,
Like vines upon crumbling foundations left to time!
Cast upon the whirlwind, our flight without tether…
Was filled with delights, unfit to relate in any rhyme.

Her six wings are that many thousands of long eons,
Wherein she did reign before the coming of mortals.
Six were they who served us on high; noble archons,
Bound to our will, by ancient ties and planar portals.
And six were the names and words of power spoke,
Which only we remember, and those who did serve!
Ancient was our dream and still we have not awoke;
Lofty was our purpose and from it we never swerve.
I am a strand woven by light from the first shadow…
Mingled with radiance, in an unholy communion past.
What a strange beast am I, as colorful as a rainbow!
Why must the night end too soon, and fleetingly last?
I trace her star upon the air, and summon courage…
Seals break and the will of ages calls up great forces.
Long ago, volcanoes burst to flame on another stage,
When a drama was enacted, of far stranger courses!
When battles raged in the void, and gods fell so far,
That we now walk amongst you as mortals bound…
No longer behind some velvet curtain or distant star,
But rather, in human likeness we can now be found.
