The Devils Made Me Do It
Orange Coast College
June Twenty-Second, Nineteen-Ninety
It was my first show live and I swear
I must’ve screamed like I saw the Almighty
There was a certain air
About the color and the pageantry
But when the Devils went on last
The place erupted with insanity
What was unique about this year
Was that they had stepped away from jazz
The Blue Devils doing Tommy?
I never thought I hear The Who with brass
What are the tarps for? Oh, I get it
The field turned into a pinball machine
Then when the whole corps went hardcore
I swore they played beyond my dreams
I went home that very night
Enamored by that arrangement and score
I wanted to be a bad ass like them
And I practiced harder than ever before
