What no one can take away from you
I searched so long
Through every storm
And every sunshine
It made me restless
When would life bless
Me with what I sought?
Everything can be taken away
On every path you can go astray
It's enough to make a man despair
Holding on sometimes feels like grasping air
What is there? What is there lasting, tell me what is there?
Nothing
But this nothing is not desperation
This nothing is the answer
Breath
The flow of the divine
Makes you one with this one thing
When everything can fail and die
When there's no sense in wondering why
When there's no meaning to it all
When all must one day burn and fall
There's one thing that is always yours
What no one can take away from you
What burns so bright and ever true
It is this moment
In which you are alive
Be present in this moment
Without meaning or strive
Rest in its beauty
This moment
Is what no one can take away

Author's Note
This poem is born out of my practice of meditation and mindfulness. I just trained for the first time in a long time and afterwards just sat outside on a bench listening to an audio book. I found presence. Peace. It's not to be found anywhere but where you are right now.
