Buying the Election

What a hoax,
Wealthy politicians,
Winning votes to represent the poor,
How are any of them fools
Even close to a representative?
How can they possibly know what it really means to be the people who need representing?

I'll tell you exactly how:
Tell them what they want to hear to win the popular vote.
Be charismatic and charming in your woes.
Don't let your lack of authenticity show.
Tell them what they want to hear,
So your own ego grows.

Now that I'm on the topic,
It certainly doesn't have to be a rich man to deliver the low blow!
Isn't that how internet "popularity" grows?!?

Of course, this happens in real life too, if you look around. But how obvious it is while browsing the web in full view?

Social media, oh yes, Facebook, snapchat, even DUP, ya know?

I guess I could like every post and comment on every submission, using the human tendency of reciprocity to my egotistic advantage.
Oh, how my popularity would GROW!

And hey, I could save/share a few posts or RL entries (or all of them, even without actually reading them) to gain a few guaranteed likes for my own. Having a clue what you mean is not really required, is it? As some likely know!
But what a cheap way to get likes on my own feed.

How would I, then, justify my greed?

Nah, I'll just walk the other way,
As I usually do.

But of this, I assure you:
If I comment on your work,
It's because I really like what you do.
If I add you to a RL,
It's because I found inspiration in your words, enough to return my attention to.
AND I could care less about your social status or your follows!

I'm not trying to be mean,
Just trying to decide:
Is popularity
really more important
than true connectivity in your eyes?

The emporer is naked.
That is just how it goes.
If you don't like me pointing out the obvious, keep your popular vote.
