My Apologies
I fell in love with a woman who thought everything I told her was a lie
Though I only ever told her the truth, still it made her cry
I said, "You're making me sad. Let me apologize, don't cry please."
She said, "You have to get your feelings out." So her tears were more like a sneeze.
I apologized again, but she said, "Don't constantly say you're sorry, using your apologies as a crutch.
Because one day something will happen and you'll be sorry, but your apology won't mean as much."
I earned a reputation as a lowdown scoundrel and a double-crossing dirty rat.
We drifted apart, but I still love her even though I don't mean as much now to her
. . . and I am truly sorry about that.
