Dear Daddies - Good Enough Should be Enough
Out on the river cliffside he was big, especially seated on the rocks near my husband. Son of the riverside property owner, he belonged there; we were guests. The beach was inviting as our children splashed happily.
Two boys with sun kissed wet strings who had been swimming for weeks there were bring talked about by two very nice daddies. Teases exchanged about the little men's wonderful, abundant hair aside, they are admired greatly for their boyant and plentiful energy. They blend in well with the blinding light.
A man like this, however, is bigger on the inside, even still. It takes a giant of a man, probably very well raised in many ways, to withstand what he had endured. Drying off in the bright sun, he brooded darkly over sparkling waters as they rushed merrily by.
"They ignore me these days. They considered me a bad father. I thought I was alright." He seemed more than alright. In an instant he seemed superhuman. Abandoned by all his grown children, still carrying on.
How he survived his encounters and lived to mostly be a happy person is more than a miracle. It's an inspirational tale of grit and the soul of man that he found a life after being used for 18 years and then dumped like yesterday's bad news.
Even if his kids weren't content with who he was, I hope he never doubts himself. He loves his family and did a father's duty. It's enough, at the very least! And now he faces rejection and lives on. That makes him a survivor, a martyr and a hero!
