This really is the eternal riddle, isn't it?  While I enjoyed reading this, I do with you'd alter the form! To honor your  request for honest critique, I suggest the following adaptation:  


It cannot be created—
 it cannot be destroyed
Without it less than nothing—
 not even a void

It is the [ very ] origin  
 of all conceivable synergy;
[ but, ] is an outside force  
 [ the ] hidden root of energy?

Glad you partly liked it though and yes this is really an important question and one i often ponder.  If we are to conclude that energy can have no beginning or end, is eternal, then that means time cannot really exist, or space for that matter, for nothing will come from nothing.  Am leaning more and more towards the "source" idea.
