Verse I
It was thicker than a bridal veil
And thinner than a curtain:
But either way it hid the truth
From the false
And her mind was left to wander
And make itself up
Like a tart on a pop night
Hoping for a pull to make everything real.
And at first she doesn’t notice
And smiles at the world
And carries on dreaming
And doesn’t notice how her fingers slip
Or her feet don’t trip
And her voice don’t sound like it used to
Any more.
‘She’ll come around,
She’ll come around,
There isn’t a choice but to come around.’
And someone laughed
In the back of the world,
Somewhere secret and dark,
And whispered,
‘Maybe madness, maybe
She’ll simply go mad
And spiral out of everywhere.’
And the whisper bounced,
Bounced and broke:
Shattered upon her eyes
And the veil was torn.
And thinner than a curtain:
But either way it hid the truth
From the false
And her mind was left to wander
And make itself up
Like a tart on a pop night
Hoping for a pull to make everything real.
And at first she doesn’t notice
And smiles at the world
And carries on dreaming
And doesn’t notice how her fingers slip
Or her feet don’t trip
And her voice don’t sound like it used to
Any more.
‘She’ll come around,
She’ll come around,
There isn’t a choice but to come around.’
And someone laughed
In the back of the world,
Somewhere secret and dark,
And whispered,
‘Maybe madness, maybe
She’ll simply go mad
And spiral out of everywhere.’
And the whisper bounced,
Bounced and broke:
Shattered upon her eyes
And the veil was torn.
