Autumn
All hunker down
as life force retreats
Willows weep
Sugar maples shout
and ashes fade forlornly to dust
We are not just in nature
We are nature
and whether with a whimper
or a rebel yell
all eventually depart
as life force retreats
Willows weep
Sugar maples shout
and ashes fade forlornly to dust
We are not just in nature
We are nature
and whether with a whimper
or a rebel yell
all eventually depart

Thank you! I've found a nice comfy spot up there. The work to get there makes it even more rewarding.

Beautifully said. Terrific economy and brevity, painting a single, thoughtful portrait. <3

love the opening line BT, it grabbed my attention and you didn't let go, also liked the at one with nature and the inevitability of its course

The beauty of it all.
I really resonate with this.
That's why I don't do anything half ass. Give it your all. One life to live. (;

Exactly.
I think if you were a tree, you'd turn bright red in fall. ;)
Thanks for the love!

Many thanks! Glad to hear the ending worked..... I struggled with the right words there.
I'm fascinated by the different characters of trees that emerge when the thing that makes them all look the same (chlorophyll) is gone..... I think there's still more poetry brewing on the topic....
Anyway, rambling. Thanks for the enthusiastic support, HF.

I climb trees fairly regularly, and this one is my favourite. No blind, just a comfy branch. It's where I go to talk to Something Bigger Than Me. 😉
Funny story - I did surprise the neighbours once, as they were walking the trail. Would have passed right under me unaware, but the stupid dog noticed me. Totally awkward! Grown-ups are not supposed to sit in trees for no reason..... I stopped for quite a while after that, but I've resumed the practice recently. They already think I'm a freak now, might as well confirm their suspicions!!

Go find a great (not skinny) climb-able tree and get up there! I promise you won't regret it. 😊

Hm, I think they think I'm crazy enough that they might not want to give me a chainsaw for trimming....!
Thank you for your kind encouragement.
