And Thus They Must Go
I am the past and they are tomorrow,
I am the east therefore they are my west,
I am the yesterday fading away,
For they are the morning to my sunset.
They are the arrows and I am the bow,
And so they go from me, forward and forth,
Launched into the future with projection,
To a time and a place I call True North.
They are a part but don’t belong to me,
A present bestowed upon me and so,
As time goes by they move going onward,
Tomorrow awaits and thus they must go.
They’ll be renewed over and over again,
Working on their visions and their dreams will come,
And I will turn into history for them,
An origin story of where they are from.
They are the horizon I have seen ahead,
Wherever they go I cannot follow them,
A reflection of my anticipation,
I will become the root from which they branch and stem.
They are the light that illuminates the road,
For generations and many other ones,
For they too will one day have gifts bestowed,
Building up legacies from fathers to sons.
I am the east therefore they are my west,
