Image for the poem the strange ones

the strange ones

the odd ones know
what it is to be strange
weird in a bland world
television tells them who to be
me and t.v. don't get along

the mentally ill see the world differently
imagination lights the way
it's not an illness really
it's a refusal to see things in black and white
I enjoy all the colors of the spectrum

the odd ones know
what it is to be wonderful
spend some time in a mental hospital
then you'll know...
there I met Marilyn Monroe, Jesus, and the devil

I have a story to tell
some of it quite fantastic
I don't need a pacifier
I've outgrown the need to be lied to about who I am

I'm an artist
I'll spend my time creating
hanging out with Jim Morrison
the world says he's dead
but Elvis told me they don't know

the strange ones know how to live
what it is to be weird
I love the oddity of my mind
I have a view no one else does
