Vintage Romance
Sunset walks along the Hampton boardwalk, morning breath kisses in the bed, with the last person you hope to wake up next to.
Greeting the new day with breakfast in bed.
Tomorrow was never promised so we lived each day like it was our last.
Picnics in the park, dancing till we were dizzy, laying out in the grass spinning records after the water fights were over.
Never thinking twice, the girls in their onesies and new bikinis, followed the boys into the lake head first, our adult swim turned into skinny dipping.
A cleanse in the fountain of forget and no regrets.
June blossomed into July, day turned into night.
Spring flings become summer romances, we knew our hearts wouldn’t make it out but we pulled the trigger and took our chances.
We were young and in love, we had it all yet we had nothing, just young and in love.
Pull up at seven to the drive thru theater.
Saturday night, “Some Like It Hot”, the gang’s all here there’s nothing sweeter.
We’d pack it up then it’s off to the rink.
We’d skate and skate hoping time stood still.
Late nights at the diner, praying the truck starts up again.
The same truck where our bodies became one for the first time.
The same truck where we said goodbye for the last time.
Our summer days turned into fall,
Our summer love began to fall,
At least three months we had it all,
Feelings change, but memories live on.
Five decades later, I still remember it all.
We had nothing but we had it all.
Forever young and in love.
