these my brothers

a rhymed, mirrored octet  
    
"[A]nd if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday." Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)    
     
skin-    
covered    
s k e l e t o n s,
   
these my brothers    
o n   the  side   of   life!    
for  a  drink  o f   w a t e r,    
silent  lips too  faint to bleat.    
passersby  with  eyes  averted,    
noses  flared,  heads  elevated,    
missing not a measured beat.    
pleasures  they  pine  after,    
like a  c a r v i n g k n i f e,    
cut   o f f   o t h e r s    
f e a s t i n g  on    
dowered    
bins.
