First, I love the imagery of this. I am very familiar with that area and remember it fondly. In regards to honest critique, I had a few thoughts:
streams of sunlight rest in the trees
How about continuing the streams metaphor by saying
streams of sunlight flow through the trees
weaving between ancient branches
a mysterious glow that paints the grass
before ebbing away
a summer mist
another sunset
It's fine as it is, the imagery is there. I just had the above thoughts when reading it.

Amazing, thanks very much. I had no idea you knew Highgate. Just moved a mile away, to East Finchley!
