Merciless & Unforgiving
The darkness is all around me
The cold is biting my skin
I looked for the light and failed
Looks like I’ve been left again
It’s the boulders in the landslide
It’s the chunks of hail within the storm
If I had half of my wits about me
I’d hole up where it’s nice and warm
But I am the death that creeps up
So I can suck the air from your lungs
I’ll rip the earth out from under you and
Leave the taste of blood on your tongue
I am merciless
I am unforgiving
I tried to save you
You weren’t willing
I am the dark and haunted memory
The one your mind tries to hide
I am bred from your deepest regrets
Burrowed down deep in your side
I am of the thorn from a dark red rose
One you plucked up just to ponder over
I thought you would hold me close
But you tossed me over your shoulder
You couldn’t handle the rough exterior
The same hue as the blood of my enemies
There is great beauty in the pain I give
But you’re weak and I’m only just a memory
I am merciless
I am unforgiving
You thought you were ahead
But I was always winning
I’m that memory you’ll always dream of
When your heart is reaching out for love
I’ll be that soft yet dark reminder
Of all the ways you’ve ever fucked up
I was that pure and powerful gem
The one and only diamond in the rough
Maybe if you had seen me for what I was
You would have seen I am more than enough
But you’ve blown all of your chances
Just like you were blowing out all the candles
Can’t have your cake and eat it too
So now I’m leaving you in shambles
Cause I am merciless

Don’t even act surprised

A bit of an edge to this one. A taste of frustration & irritation...mixed with disappointment & sadness. All while being defiant. Those little repeated verses bring it all together perfectly. :-)
