WITCHDOCTORS
The poor child groaned
while his mother moaned
''Ah, he's possessed,
Oh, he's been bewitched'',
Superstition bemoaned
.
To the witchdoctor she sped
and was back with murky potions
such yucky stinky lotions
Those mythical concoctions
The woman obeyed the wily witchdoctor
Placed belief in that traditional healer
and the poor child still groaned
but his mama no longer moaned
After two days of tribal treatment
and no lessening of predicament
she thought he needed
something more potent
When all it turned out to be
a cavity toothache dent!
But she would hear of no dentist
Like all quacks her witchdoctor had fooled her five senses
For his spells and his chants
held her too in a trance
Quite a weird weirdo is he
Beware the cunning medicine- man!
The devious spellbinding shaman
Beware that vodoo magic and witchcraft
That so survive on the gullible and the daft.
Yet I was warned to be wary of pharmaceuticals too
They can be harmful chemicals in the long run for you
Author's Note
Traditional healers of the spell casting kind are common in Africa where I'm settled now so this was inspired by that . But I learnt it's there in many other places as well.

Re. WITCHDOCTORS
There is a delicate balance between pharmaceuticals and natural healing elements. too much or not enough either way is an imbalance which perpetuates suffering. You've expressed that well here.

Great you realised I'm against both actually, more for natural herbal treatments though when they don't work then allopathic is the last resort. Warm thanks for comment dear.

Cant argue this at all the world brings forth cures to heal our bodies but instead it heal one to weaken another

well written & the thematic importance is right there...of these such widespread ignorance & blind beliefs on witch crafts..also rightly you say of the other side too-the indifferentially loaded chemicals in our system thatt's even more eating one..reminds starkly -of our need to be living with & as nature, & that too much of anything, even if its an elixir, would be a killer..
well said Zaynab..poetry with greater purpose you do..write on xx

Fluent and direct, the expression dear Sister. Job. Excellent job.

Such perpetrators of ignorance still exist. Many do harm to others for their own gain. This is a good piece about those that care more about themselves than truly helping others.

While I do appreciate the sentiment expressed here, I must confess that i'm not a fan of rhymned poetry. I prefer more mystery in what i read (& write). It's very difficult to write it without making it mawkish or awkward. Such is my personal preference. But, as you've seen, I'm not too concerned with whether or not my poems are easily understood. I like it when i write things that even I don't understand.
That said, I'm an old man contrarian who has NOT succeeded at the business of literature, so what do I know. Just maybe widen your "influences" by reading more late 20th century "free verse" & see what happens. There's an extensive list of poets who i consider "the masters" in my profile page. Plenty to choose from. AND, write on!

Thanks for your comment! Yeah I know free verse is more popularised on many sites yet I write more for the message and content so I'm glad you acknowledged the sentiment. These are my old poems, so they will be in somewhat rhyming. Not perfect rhymes though. Lately I write more freeverse on other sites but I can't convert my crystal clear rhyming messages into free verse and some still like rhyme so I go on.
But to write sth which no one understands oh nohh that can be your unique style and choice but I want to be sure everyone gets my message as clearly as day. It would be against my style and intent to write abstract poetry . so cheers.

i like the flow and the true rare thoughts of witchdoctors in some countries who believe in these rituals with strong belief for you catured it nicely just a subjection try shorten your work most folks dont like to read long pieces if they start half way through they stop unless the story keeps there attention like a book always remember you want your readers to follow you as you take them on a journey having there undivided attention to be able to see what you feel through your writing in an equal exchange of thoughts feelings and emotions...
