If Wisdom’s Righteous Wrath Contained The Words – Sonnet Fifty
If Wisdom’s righteous wrath contained the words,
The thunder bolts and lightning strikes of Will,
If Courage reigned instead the Politics
Of sheepish herds in hate-filled words held still,
Would we have found ourselves upon this ledge?
Would we, who once held dear our freedom’s right,
Stand impotent in face of conman’s pledge,
Of “Great Again,” each act our greatness blights.
How long will lies disguised and blamed as true,
Or truth disguised as lies, as fake believed,
Confuse the facts, our single greatness knew
When We the People equal rights received.
May Justice in her equal blindness weigh,
A Prison One for Presidential stay.

Dear Geoff, not only did this piece bring tears to my eyes because of it’s undeniable truth and is wholeheartedly shared, but because (and I thank you) for having put President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address in your Author’s Note. A speech (that scanned less than 3 minutes when he spoke it on November 19, 1863) is, in my humble opinion, to be the ultimate definitive missive to a nation’s people ever dedicated. And so relevant in these times that try men’s souls.

... I like the theory of inalienable rights - but history shows in practice we have merely temporary privileges, that when our lords and masters wish to remove them, they do so (like in our current era) and we have to fight for them all over again - despite what any constitutions say.
