Language
I love to learn and speak languages,
And to speak about languages.
About verbal and non verbal communication,
And how context and pronunciation,
And spelling, and just changing one letter/word/sound, can completely change communication.
About slang terminology, and how language has changed over the thousands of years,
And how it has changed rapidly in the past few hundred years...
But It stinks,
I hate it when people think,
That Early Modern English is the same as Old English,
Here is an example of Old English:
Mīn wandrian-scyf ful ǣlen is
Mīn lyfthærnflota is ful ǣla.
Did Shakespeare write that way?
What does that sentence say?
If you can read that, then good for you,
I know it, but do you?

It certainly beats me. I found Chaucer bad enough, and a lot of Shakespeare too. Language evolves like everything else and as far as I understand it, the only advantage in old languages is that sometimes they have words for things that we no longer have words for, because their meaning has changed. Etymology can be fascinating.

Language can be a great toy. Playing with your native language or learning other languages.
That piece of old english got me intrigued, so tried to google it.
But "my hovercraft is full of eels" made me wonder.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. (The sentence is a reference to a phrase used in a sketch about a badly translated English-Hungarian phrasebook from Monty Python's Flying Circus, if you don't know. :P )
